The Republican Party’s project is not to be popular or win elections. It is to make elections unnecessary for holding power. Gerrymandered maps, voter suppression, a captured judiciary, and the procedural stranglehold of the Senate filibuster all serve the same function: insulating Republican rule from democratic accountability. Trump’s approval among the broader public matters only if that public can translate disapproval into political consequences. The party has spent decades building the infrastructure of preventing democratic functioning.

Armitage's take is really really stupid,

given that Trump is in the Supreme Court right now trying to get a ruling so that democracy CAN control the so-called "independent agencies."

It's you Progressive lot who want there to be powerful bureaucrats who answer to no one.

Hopefully that undemocratic form of government by bureaucracy won't be around too much longer.
