President Biden worked with a bipartisan group on immigration reform beginning back in September of last year or earlier. Their immigration bill would have raised the standard to get asylum, sent away those who don't qualify and expedited cases for those who do -- and it was endorsed by the border patrol union and the Chamber of Commerce -- but convicted felon Donald Trump killed the bill because he felt it was more important to run on the border crisis than to solve the problem for the American people.

As president Biden clearly said when he announced this EO, "I've come here today to do what the Republicans in congress refuse to do, take the necessary steps to secure our border... Four months ago, we came to a deal but Republicans walked away because Trump told them to."
