For decades the Google Jockey and their ilk said how it's gonna help bring democracy and openness vis a vis China.

Yeah, I know. The Google Jockey will have links. It'll still all be ok.

LOL now everyone from Biden to Rah Emmanuel is chirping about XI.

Hint: On campus, your links were probably valid all of the time.

In the real world - not always.

Pssst.... here's to 'nationalism!' and trying to onshore some industries, and forbidding trade with China for certain items.

We just discovered what might be the world's largest lithium deposits along the Nevada border. Between that, what they can extract from the Salton Sea and Australia's cobalt reserves there's your ability to make batteries, hopefully solid state ones.

But what do you want to bet that these same people don't want to mine US lithium and want to keep getting their EV batteries from child labor in Africa? That runs through China, of course.

I think you are probably right. That will sadly be the case.

My only only only hope is......

That a long time ago, Real Men, American Men got together in the room and decided that on resources - we're gonna suck the world as dry as we can and THEN use more of our own stuff.

I can only wish that is the case.

That idea works up until the day you create a monster that you're dependent on, which is where we are with China.

People don't build big Navies...unless they intend to use them:
https://www.cnn.com/2023/02/22/asia/us-navy-chief-...

Del Toro said Tuesday that US naval shipyards can't match the output of Chinese ones. As with fleet size, it's about numbers.

'They have 13 shipyards, in some cases their shipyard has more capacity ' one shipyard has more capacity than all of our shipyards combined. That presents a real threat,' he claimed.

Del Toro did not give a breakdown of those shipyards, but Chinese and Western reports say China has six major and two smaller shipyards building naval vessels.

On that score I feel you are correct.

There are some in America - especially Liberals that want America dependent on other countries.

But be careful - there's some in the NeoCon and Country Club GOP groups who fall into that cabal too, albeit for different reasons.
