...by the Trump Administration.

So, it turns out that the Trump Administration going to war with Harvard University was a mistake on its part, that the email sent to Harvard with a series of demands about hiring, admissions and curriculum so onerous that school officials decided they had no choice but to take on the White House was sent in error.

The April 11 letter from the White House’s task force on antisemitism, this official told Harvard, should not have been sent and was “unauthorized,” two people familiar with the matter said.

The letter was sent by the acting general counsel of the Department of Health and Human Services, Sean Keveney, according to three other people, who were briefed on the matter.

Mad King Donald's Administration is blaming Harvard, though, for the misunderstanding and not continuing discussions: "Maybe we messed up and sent you a letter that was never meant to be sent but you should have called us instead of assuming we are competent and know what we're doing."

Hhmmm.

You know what this sounds like? It sounds like Mad King Donald didn't expect the blowback this has generated and is looking for a scapegoat.

They're all bozos on that bus.

They're all bozos on that bus.

Stop denigrating bozos--it hurts their feelings.

They are not on a bus. They are all "residents" strapped into straitjackets behind "The Wall". They aren't going anywhere--ever.

Harvard is safe FOR NOW, because Trump’s normal course is to back down when faced by the prospect of a war he feels he can’t win.

What Harvard did…. Is collectively what we all need to do.

Also characteristic of Trump…… he never forgets or forgives. The destruction of Harvard will resume if he senses an opening.

And that’s something none of us can afford to forget.

So, it turns out that the Trump Administration going to war with Harvard University was a mistake on its part,

I have a different suspicion. My hunch is that even (some) Right Wingers were appalled at this intrusion into trying to dictate to Universities how they should be run and what they should teach. Not that that isn’t a desired objective, just that they (the “small government” contingent) doesn’t think the President (or anyone in government) should be telling private institutions how to be run - at least not with this specificity of dictat.

While this sort of thing is likely wildly popular with “the base” - and plays to Trump’s (and Vance’s and MAGAT’s) predilections anyway, there are still a few on the conservative side (Wall Street Journal, some think tanks) who think he’s beginning to reach too far and have made their objections known. (Ho ho ho, and I’m not exaggerating with the italics.)

I have no way to prove any of this, of course, but then I would hardly expect them to say “Oh, we screwed up with our general philosophy” as opposed to “Oh, we sent an email by mistake.”
