Let's not get ahead of things here. It will take a while to figure out what happened in this incident. One thing that will need to be looked at closely is if the pilots of the two aircraft were following the instructions from ATC. The helo was instructed to maintain visual separation from the plane, and acknowledged that it had the plane in sight and would maintain that separation. Clearly, that didn't happen. The question is going to be why it didn't happen. Was the helo pilot looking at the wrong plane? (There were a number of other planes in the area, so that's certainly possible.) Did the controller give an instruction that couldn't be followed or was inappropriate? Lots of questions, zero answers at the moment. So let's not jump to conclusions.
I doubt there's anything that the FAA administrator could do directly here.
But this also points up that airspace around this airport is extremely crowded, with multiple flight restrictions. As a lay person, I question whether this airport should operate at all with the given restrictions. That WOULD be something the head of the FAA could address.
Bottom line, let's not turn this one into a political ideology contest. Trump's actions around leadership of various agencies is a separate issue from this crash.

When Biden assumed office, he issued a whole of government order to all the agencies to promote diversity in the federal workforce. Because he was the President (and Commander in Chief), the agencies followed that order. Now Trump has come in with different priorities. But since he views things in personal terms, he's firing all the people who followed Biden's orders as untrustworthy. Even though that was their job, and even though one of his main positions is that federal workers are supposed to follow the direction of the President.

Thanks Albaby, I hadn't even thought about how he could view people as "woke" just if they followed orders. I remember back when I had to drop the word "oriental' from my vocabulary and refer to people as "Asian-Pacific Islander" or just "Asian". Oriental was not to be used. Now I never see the term, but my side of the island I I lived on in the PI was Negros Oriental. And Negros referred to the Negrense people that lived there, but the only tribe that was black were the Negritos, and there were only about a thousand left. The Negritos aren't African, want to live away from people, and don't like visitors.
I'm glad I have somewhere to go to help me understand this. It's going to be tough. :(

We already know. Inflation (2-4 years ago...it's been normal the past 2 or so years), and border security (which they tightened in late 2023 after complaints from members of their own party). And, of course, the paranoia about brown people ("they're eating the pets!"), and DEI; which was hyped-up by the right-wing propaganda machine. But mostly inflation and border crossings, both of which were under control in 2024, but apparently too late.
I strongly suspect that the Felon will create such a mess that the Reps are going to get their asses handed to them in 2026 and 2028. He's off to a stellar start for Dems.
