I don't really get why she didn't become a citizen, but whatever. She has been a legal green card holder for 50 years. She's been detained, and relatives can't get any information.

Yeah...they're really cracking down on dangerous immigrants. (eye roll)

This is the ugly and unfortunate part.

I am 100% in support of deporting illegals.

I am 100% in support of not letting violators of visas stay longer, or figure out how to return to the USA.

But a LEGAL permanent resident? Nuts. That's one LESS customer to buy our burgers, cars, houses, cruises, whatever. It's one LESS taxpayer in a broke-ass country that needs it. One LESS professional working in science.

I would have immigration STRICTER than Trump (if I still gave a shit).

One of the lazy European countries - who NEEDS productive immigrants to augment pensions for their lazy, sort of child-less, or less-children adults could be so sneaky here. They could TARGET for marketing and recruitment. If I were France or Germany or whatever, and I need people. BUT I've had my fill of the Sheeple Scouts *Religion of Peace*......I'd openly recruit American green card holders:

*Base it on years in the USA and squeaky clean crime record.

*0% usage of welfare programs.

*Perhaps preference to college educated, AND fields that I want workers and professionals for.

So now I've got people VETTED by America and proven via their life in America. They've assimilated to some degree to Western ways of life

I'd figure out the perks:

*Fee-tax-penalty free TRANSFER of savings and retirement assets to my country's bank

*Relocation assistance: Moving and storage. Transportation.

*Temporary concierge - a government office that is like the 1-800-help-me line for American immigrants needing help with anything from registering for school to ordering a burger.

*I'd talk to these American green card holders with the following message: Do you want to NOT be scared of being unwelcome when you travel and come back to your country of residence? Do you maybe not want to be shot at by an AR15? Do you *not* want to wolf down your lunch, rush back to work rush back home and be in a hurry because somehow you don't' have time? Well them, come on over to country X

IF a country did this---- and American businesses, colleges, property values felt the brunt - oh it would be the coup of coups.

Of course I write this just as fantasy. In the end I want America ti import shit, and I want other countries to get the good ones. On record for that since the mid 2000's and I've actually helped this happen in multiple instance. Well, sort of. The few high-tech visas who overstayed I personally paid for their legal stuff (Also spoke of this on tmF)---they're doing fine- and a few lazy 401K'ers don't have their I.T job as a result now. - hey, diversity right?

But mostly, I want more burdens imported. I want the productive ones to to go elsewhere. I want the "aggressive" ones in Europe :)

I think most people would agree with that. Though, some folks define "illegal" very loosely (e.g. an asylum-seeker is NOT illegal, but many think they are because they didn't get an immigrant visa).
