My reservations would be where people have been scammed into thinking they are renting or leasing a property. They may noy be legally on the property, but they deserve a very short period of time to relocate their property to lower the harm. Emphasis on short. - Lapsody

I heard some reporting to the effect that removal of the squatter is not immediate, as you mention.

However, and this is the beauty of this law, if the squatter has done more the $1,000 damage to the property, his unauthorized occupation is upgraded to a felony with immediate arrest and harsh penalties. This makes perfect sense, if you think you made a legitimate lease, you don't break out a window to get in, or paint grafitti everywhere or punch holes in the sheet rock to make your rental feel more like home.
