Will James O'Shaughnessy go down in history as one of the most influential minds in investing. I think he should, because he is the Father of quantitative investing.

He published a mass market book based on backtesting but was not the first to use measurable criteria on a repeated basis to invest, which goes back at least to Benjamin Graham. The S&P itself uses hard criteria to create indices and "quants" existed before Jim's book. The "Dogs of the Dow" is such a method. https://institutional.bmogam.com/ca-en/insights/in...

It was a good article. He may have been the first to popularize it for the retail investor though.
