"Trump’s Iran war enables Putin’s war in Ukraine. The terrorists are in power and they stick together.
And why is the United States still fighting a war against Iran? The war is lost and it is very unpopular. Why does Trump, knowing all this, stay in it, with the American midterm elections just weeks away? He worries out loud constantly that his power will be hindered if his party loses.
So how can the war possibly help him?
One possibility is that he is hoping for a second 9/11: that if he keeps firing missiles at Iran, the Iranian regime will do him the favor of taking murderous action inside the United States. And then he can try to suspend elections, or deploy more American troops in more American cities, and stay in power indefinitely." —Professor Timothy Snyder
Trump, in spite of being the most despised president in American history, still has levers he can pull, buttons he can push. He can optimize chaos, while scanning the field for any advantage resulting from it. No sane Republican, no sane American, feels that things are as they should be. But perhaps, if they can just squeeze one more institution, just steal one more contest, just receive one more blatantly partisan ruling from a corrupt Supreme Court, they can cling to power for another season. Meanwhile, the wholesale theft, the butchery of our traditions, the incineration of the planet, continues apace.
The anesthetized MAGA flock revels in the threat of punishment of "the other", while sliding inexorably toward poverty, sickness, and authoritarian whim. They are responsible for the most inept, corrupt administration ever—a rooting section for criminals, con artists, and clowns. In the name of religion, they have promoted Christo-fascism. Everything Jesus taught they spit on, or sneer at, or conveniently cover with a survival blanket of sanctimony, while St. Rupert of Crocodile Dundee laughs at them from his mansion in Bel-Air. He's the shrewd one—what does that make his viewers, or should we say his product? Baaaa.
A wise person once wrote, "Come on people now, smile on your brother, everybody get together, let's impeach this motherfucker, right now."
