If one of the smartest human beings in the world followed you around all day long and you had access to his or her advice and was on call to answer any question on any topic for which they had considerable expertise..
You would not do everything your elite super smart human being suggested, you would not assume everything your super smart companion said was correct. But having that person by your side at all times would come with notable large advantages.
How is AI ANY different than access to a super smart human? Why do we hold AI to a higher standard than the smartest humans in the world? I would appreciate access to both sources. I wouldn’t do a damn thing either insisted on. But I’d appreciate their counsel.
So..I. served this softball up to ChatGPT which piled on additional benefits:
“Breadth. One person might be world-class in medicine but know little about estate planning, automobiles, aviation, physics, Disney vacation logistics, or corporate finance. AI can move among those domains.
Availability. Your hypothetical person eventually needs sleep.
Processing. AI can rapidly compare a large number of pieces of information and work through calculations, alternatives and counterarguments.
Lack of ego. Ideally, I don’t care whether an idea originated with you or me. I can examine it without needing to defend my previous position.
And perhaps most importantly:
You can interrogate me.
You can say:
“Wait. That doesn’t make sense. What would prove you wrong?” “
So to me, I see no reason to do everything either my smartest human friend nor AI insists. Yes, the challenges with AI are well documented and REAL. Documented by humans.
I suspect as we add to Charlie Munger’s list of biases to watch out for we have one now brewing : Human Bias. Don’t accept as gospel what humans tell you—just because they’re not AI. :)
