a compelling and under-reported perspective is that this is another of multiple regional victories for turkey vs russia via proxy battlegrounds, all after the crimea invasion.
and MAGA fanboys need make no mistake, the conflicts have been very brief and decisive losses for putin.
thankfully, due to NATO membership and his age, erdogan does not seem to have blatantly expansionist ambitions.
(but seems on par for the authoritarian club via mass purges and torture in country)

trump seems upset that america used the opportunity to further weaken ISIS, and prevent access to assad's chemical and strategic weapon stockpiles.
one less arena for MAGA personal grift by promising to take\withhold military action in syria. or maybe he was envisioning replicating the quality of his negotiations with the taliban.
