I don’t know, I would think JFK might disagree. Bobby Kennedy too. Ronald Reagan actually got shot, Jerry Ford had two attempts on his life, and, lest we recall, Lincoln, Garfield, and McKinley didn’t do so well with their Secret Service Protection either.

And there's a non-zero chance that Secret Service told Trump there was a security issue and he cannot go out on stage, but he refused to listen and insisted on going out anyway. As I recall, he has talked about the crowds being "my people" at some previous outdoor event where he didn't want the metal detectors to be used.
