CHICAGO (WLS) -- President Donald Trump on Friday said Chicago will likely be the next target of his efforts to crack down on crime, homelessness and illegal immigration.

Trump indicated that the Midwestern city could receive similar treatment to what he's done in Washington, D.C., where he's deployed 2,000 troops on the streets.

Meanwhile, the ABC7 I-Team is tracking the latest threats to Illinois from the U.S. Justice Department. Attorney General Pam Bondi is calling on democratic led states to dismantle policies that forbid local law enforcement from working with federal agents on immigration enforcement.

"I think Chicago will be our next," Trump told reporters at the White House, later adding, "And then we'll help with New York."

I guess that depends on what impact you think Martial Law will have on the economy. IMO that is the end goal, towards which a dialogue is being created to make it seem the norm. How else can he resist losing power in 2028?

Maxwell, the convicted sex offender, has vouched for him. The economic impact is huge.

******historical context, not looking to have fingers waggled at me, again*****

A week or so back, I asked the Google AI thing if the German stock market went up, or down, during the 30s. The answer was that the market went up after the Nazis took power. The interesting thing is this:

Perks of Affiliation:
Firms with strong ties to the Nazi party or its leaders saw their share prices increase significantly, outperforming the general market by a substantial margin as investors rewarded these connections.

A couple days after I asked that question, this piece from Forbes hit the wire.

White House Creates Loyalty Rating System For 553 U.S. Companies

https://www.forbes.com/sites/antoniopequenoiv/2025...

The article lists a handful of companies near the top of the brownnosing list: a couple airlines, which are dependent on the good will of the FAA, AT&T, which is dependent on the good will of the FCC. Uber and Doordash, which have a case before the Dept of Labor regarding distribution of tips given to their drivers. The steel industry got it's protectionist tariff.

*****takeaway*****

That old saw about "market of stocks, not a stock market" may apply here: embrace the companies that schmooze the administration.

Steve,

The German public after WW I was in a terrible long-term depression. Their wealth undeniably increased. The between the wars Germany consumer came back to life.

Today's economic impact on the US consumer is unemployment. Corporate profits mostly have been hitting highs. Things are fraying. The odds are things fall apart. The nations home prices are on edge or worse. Debt both public and private is untenable in a downturn.

The Nazis managed things. The US today is throwing away the management book. We are destroying markets.

The trend in "modern, professional, management" seems to be to maximize the current CEO's bonus. The longer term consequences are seen as the next guy's problem.

One of my favorite whipping boys is Boeing. A Jack Welch acolyte took over a company with a solid reputation, sound balance sheet, and slightly overfunded pension plan. He left it with Billions in negative equity, an underfunded pension plan, and a book of shoddy engineering and construction practices that started to blow up only a couple years after he left. It was his successor, who came from the military side, that took the fall when 73s started falling out of the sky, due to shoddy engineering.

That is how I see the US economy, in the hands of a "modern, professional, manager", the sort METARites know me to call a "JC". The revenues from the tariffs, as well as savings from budget cuts, will be redistributed to blow financial bubbles. Everything will be great, until it isn't.

(once I stop laffing), that could be a viable idea. Anyone who noticed how brownnosers at their company get ahead, while those more focused on getting their job done, do not, would appreciate the idea. Only thing is, the administration's list is "dynamic", companies rise or fall based on what they have been doing for the administration lately. Without continuous access to the list, to monitor rises and falls. your ETF could, for instance, be heavy in a particular drug company, that suddenly displeases the administration, and finds it's most profitable drug ordered withdrawn by the FDA.

Realistically, most company managements will catch on pretty quick, so a broad based fund would avoid being overexposed to a single company that goes off the reservation. Over on the Fool, for a while, DrBob was keeping track of companies that, very publicly, abandoned DEI policies.

*****before anyone flames me for this, how else would you explain the compiling of the company list, if not to implement a reward and punishment system, and administration official conformation to Forbes the existence of the list, if not to whip companies into line?****

Steve...not really joking about this.
