Evidently the sticking point for the presidential debate is a mute button. Now if I told you one sde wants a mute button but the other side does not, which would be which?

Well, the Trump campaign is arguing there SHOULD BE a mute button while the Harris camp is insisting there SHOULD NOT BE a mute button.

Now ain't that a kick in the head for the free speech republican folks?

I don't think Democrats can get on too high horse about this one. The "mute button" demand originated with the Biden campaign when they set up the original debate terms:

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/live/2024/may/...

They, of course, would not have characterized the purpose of that request as Joe Biden's team being embarrassed that Biden can't handle himself against Trump without the benefit of a mute button. They would have instead framed it as a way to make sure the debate didn't degenerate into crosstalk, because Trump has no self-control.

The strategic considerations regarding the mute button have changed with the change in nominee....but I don't think the Democrats can paint themselves as too noble on this point....
