The week's question
In December 2024, in the thread "Re: BRK: Why Not XOM?", mungofitch asked the members: "As for why the purchases stopped (for a while), perhaps the recent acquisition was seen to be somewhat counter to the capital allocation plans that Mr Buffett thought had been promised?" This week it is put to everyone again. The button below opens the small thread re-asking it - read what others have said so far, then give your own answer as an ordinary reply.

reuters.com - Chinese automakers make tech led pitch europes premium car market

Typically, a German premium car launch includes images celebrating a brand's heritage, such as an early 20th-century craftsman carefully shaping an elegant ‌piece of wood trim.
The Chinese premium car launches in Paris were different.

During Aito's unveiling of four electric SUVs, Seres Vice President Clifford Kang, representing the brand's parent company, highlighted its "intelligent technology". An accompanying video showed Aito vehicles automatically swerving to avoid obstacles or carrying a tower of full champagne glasses on the hood without spilling a drop.

During the unveiling of Bentley's first EV last month, CEO Frank‑Steffen Walliser told reporters that real luxury comes from the "heart of Europe" and is irreplaceable.

At this week's Paris car show, Chinese brands showcased premium vehicles packed with advanced driver-assistance systems, rapid charging and comfort features, hoping to persuade buyers to choose unfamiliar Chinese badges over established luxury names.

reuters.com - Tesla set unveil next generation roadster sports EV after years delay

Tesla (TSLA.O), opens new tab unveiled a redesigned Roadster powered with rocket-style thrusters on Thursday and said it would start production in 2028, more than a decade after it first showed a next-generation version of its electric sports car.

The white two-seater vehicle, ‌developed in collaboration with CEO Elon Musk's rocket company SpaceX, drove upside down on a ramp using a suction system, turned in the air and landed using built-in thrusters. Later in the event it used the thrusters to jump over a truck and other vehicles, twisting in the air during the maneuver.
