In the wake of the Covid pandemic data there is enough data to process and the findings are not surprising.
While it's dropped significantly since last September, there's still a clear and dramatic correlation between how much of the population has been 2-dose vaccinated and its COVID death rate since May 1, 2021:
The death rate since May 1st, 2021 in the least-vaccinated tenth is still 2.72x higher than the most-vaccinated decile.
The death rate since May 1st, 2021 in the least-vaccinated fifth is still 2.42x higher than the most-vaccinated quintile.

His data is probably suspect, but whatever. Your post captures the essence of how and where they got it wrong: they forgot that individuals have agency and can be trusted to make their own decisions.
