Rubio kicks Iranian negotiators out of US

The Iranian delegation, including Abbas Araghchi, the foreign minister, stayed in New York after the UN General Assembly (UNGA) last week, with the mandate to restart peace talks after their fragile agreement with the US expired last month.

However, the two sides reached a stalemate on Monday and Mr Rubio, the US secretary of state, demanded the Iranians leave immediately, sources told Axios.

“Secretary Rubio kicked out the Iranian delegation, who had overstayed their welcome. The UN General Assembly was over, so it was time for them to go,” a US official told the news outlet.

“The Iranian delegation left New York on Monday evening, in accordance with the schedule that had also been communicated to the US department of state in advance on Sept 17,” it said. “Having achieved nothing, the state department has resorted to propagating baseless and worthless news.”
