I have heard that somewhere before. If true, I don't see why the Feds can't simply that. It is like the swamp gets some weird thrill out of "I know, but you can't" mentality.

It's not true. And they did say that it wasn't true:

But people don't listen. Or don't bother to find out. A good conspiracy theory is far more entertaining than the prosaic truth.

It's a core problem with social media, which incentivizes "just asking the question" or spreading a conspiracy theory, but does not incentivize reaching out to local officials and getting the confirmation that the thing that someone "heard that somewhere before." So people who get their news from social media are very likely to have heard the rumor, but not the official statement explaining why the rumor isn't true.
