The typical year for the North Atlantic is around 14 named storms and three major hurricanes. (average 1991-2020)

The NOAA forecast for this year is 17-25 named storms and 13 hurricanes. Of those 13, 4-7 are expected to be "major hurricanes" (wind speeds 111+ mph)

I hope Ajit has been doing his job as well as usual : )

My favorite meteorologist points out that we have so far had record low cyclonic activity this season, with the northern hemisphere at only 25% of normal. Despite the slow start, he agrees that the hurricane season will eventually be a big one, particularly in the Atlantic, though in terms of number of storm it may not catch up to early predictions.

It seems like the current Caribbean weather conditions are generating subtropical storm depressions that are pretty destructive in terms of flooding.
