'CNN Praises Biden's Maui Speech Where He Compared Historic Fire To Small Kitchen Fire'
Snip
'CNN climate reporter Bill Weir gushed over President Joe Biden's remarks this week in Maui where he compared the worst fire the U.S. has experienced in over 100 years to a small kitchen fire at his home nearly two decades ago.
The Maui wildfires earlier this month killed well over 100 people, with more than 1,000 still unaccounted for, and destroyed nearly 3,000 structures, according to state and local officials.'

Maybe I'm missing it, but where did Biden compare the Maui fire to a small kitchen fire?
He said that he knows what it's like to have your home burn down, because his home burned down. His home burned down from a small kitchen fire, but he didn't say that the Maui fire is like a small kitchen fire. Just that he can empathize with losing your home to fire.
Was there another part of the speech where he actually made that comparison?

Cult? CULT? Those of us.....or at least a great great many of us.....who will vote for Biden if he's the Dem nominee have made it ultra clear, in focused discussions such as this board and in polls and interviews, that although we find that he's done a commendable job overall since he became president, as has been documented (and with no historical comparisons....Trump's the one who loves to do that) ' we'd prefer a highly capable candidate who is younger, and doesn't present the risk of ending up with Kamala Harris in the White House. But if we have to vote for Biden to prevent a Repubican threat to democracy and to the welfare of people living in the US, the choice is clear.

He had a small kitchen fire. Jill called the fire department and walked out of the house.
https://www.firehouse.com/home/news/10516121/light...WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) -- Lightning struck the home of Sen. Joseph Biden, starting a small fire that was contained to the kitchen.
No one was injured in Sunday's fire, which started amid a storm that caused serious flooding in Pennsylvania and knocked out power to hundreds of Delaware homes and businesses.
...
Firefighters arrived to find heavy smoke coming from the house, but were able to keep the flames from spreading beyond the kitchen, said Cranston Heights Fire Company Chief George Lamborn.

Fair enough (though he did acknowledge in his speech that he was out of the house for a year, not that it had to be rebuilt).
But again - he didn't compare the Maui fire to a small kitchen fire. He was offering an example that he knows what it's like to be displaced from your home due to a fire - not that the fires were comparable in scope or magnitude.

Biden's speaking style is to try to generate some empathy with his audience by way of some personal anecdote or story that he tries to relate to whatever the situation is. Problem is most of his stories are...questionable...in terms of how accurate they are.

Also a fair point - but not the one that the article was making. It's a good thing that the President is trying to show empathy, not a good thing if he's taking liberties with the anecdotes he shares....but neither of those things is comparing the Maui wildfire to a small kitchen fire.

I didn't watch his speech for his remarks in full context, so I don't know where he worked in the Corvette and the cat into his remarks. I'm just pointing out that he didn't lose a house to a fire.

And he didn't say he did - that was my misreading of his comments. He said he was out of his house for the better part of a year.

Dang... that ranks right up there with Fat Don's rapey, multiple fraud convictions, election denying self, insurrection promoting, racist, bigoted pandering self.

You are so diplomatic. I respect that.

And just guessing here that it is much much easier and way less stressful to be out of your home for year if you are a well connected multi millionaire than it is for a humble shopkeeper living week on week on a meager income.

He was ranked 98 out of 100 on the senate wealth scale (only two senators had less personal wealth).
