Paola Clouatre, a 25-year-old Mexican national whose mother brought her into the country seeking asylum more than a decade ago, met Adrian Clouatre, 26, at a southern California nightclub during the final months of his five years of military service in 2022.

An immigration lawyer told me 25 years ago: "do NOT get married in the US without immigration status. Get a fiancé visa or H1b while out of the country, then you can come back and get married."

Got to follow the rules, which are so byzantine you have to get a lawyer involved, which costs $1,000's.
