Buffalo Springfield:
There's battle lines being drawn
Nobody's right if everybody's wrong
Young people speaking their minds
Getting so much resistance from behind
It's time we stop
Hey, what's that sound?
Everybody look, what's going down?
What a field day for the heat (Ooh ooh ooh)
A thousand people in the street (Ooh ooh ooh)
Singing songs and they carrying signs (Ooh ooh ooh)
Mostly say, "Hooray for our side" (Ooh ooh ooh)
It's time we stop
Hey, what's that sound?
Everybody look, what's going down?
Paranoia strikes deep
Into your life it will creep
It starts when you're always afraid
Step out of line, the men come and take you away
There is a possibility of conversing and considering opposing viewpoints. But when one side insists on citing poor sources, and refuses to listen to any correction of those sources (e.g. Fox, Newsmax, others), it's difficult to discuss anything. Not everyone does that, but a lot do. If you've never said "huh, I guess I was wrong", you may be part of the problem. I know I have said it (e.g. I was against Obamacare in the beginning).
"Hooray for our side" gets us nowhere. Many "news" services just make it worse, playing off of the fear and paranoia that Springfield was talking about.
