I think the point was that the U.S. military could easily wipe out group of armed or unarmed U.S. citizens without breaking into a sweat.

Correct.

These gun fetish folks, who seem to have a large overlap with the MAGA crowd, can only seem to envision democracy going out in a blaze of gunfire and glorious revolution.

The reality is that if democracy dies in the US, it will happen with strokes of a pen, not at the point of a gun. And those in favor of the loss of democratic freedoms will cheer on that loss, thinking that they will benefit. Only when it is too late will they realize what they have done.
