Excellent piece on Trump's very obvious mental decline.

All the hollering about Joe Biden is a distraction. Joe is history. But Trump is in the Whitehouse now and he is clearly not up to the job.

To be fair, he was never up to the job. His mental status was an issue even in 2016, though more of a personality disorder at that time. Today, he's in some stage of dementia. If it moves like 1poormom's did, he won't recognize people by the time he leaves office.

Hopefully, Dems win Congress next year, and we can 25th Amendment him. I'm no fan of JD Vance, but at least he won't "push the button" without realizing it. He's just a moron, he's not addled with dementia.

Exactly, but we ALL knew that. And 70 odd million people still voted for him. Heard today - Ezra Klein pod (recommended) - of voters making less than $50k, a majority voted for Trump. They KNEW what they were voting for. Tax cuts for the rich, deportations, tariffs. None of this was a secret.

The BBB gives me a nice tax cut (SALT, pass-thru business). F‘em, I guess.

BTW, I am still angry at the Dems. They gaslighted us and lied to us.

Would you be so kind to explain to us how people making 50K benefit from open borders? 4 amazing guys painted my entire house in four days last year, none of them spoke English, they worked a ten-hour day. My landscapers don't speak English, same monthly bill for 20 years. One of my cleaning ladies speaks English. My grandkids all live in upscale neighborhoods in Cali and NEV. I know how I benefit from the cheap labor. IF you make 50 K your kids most likely are attending crowded public schools with limited resources. The teachers are underpaid, overworked, and time and resource constrained. IF you add 2-3 undocumented kids to their classrooms, the other kids have to compete for that teacher's time and attention. I think low-income earners who support open borders are misinformed, and their families are being abused. Low-income voters voting trump was a no brainer. Criminalizing retail theft saves small businesses in low-income areas. What am I missing, thank you.

HC, the Open Border political slogan isn't factually accurate. In fact we've become one of the hardest nations to immigrate to. No country has open borders anymore.

SNIP Open Borders in the Modern World

As of 2022, none of the countries in the world officially have open borders. While a few countries have open border agreements with a select few other countries (Europe’s Schengen nations being the most prominent example), the majority of nations opt instead for border policies that place at least a few additional limitations on individuals’ ability to enter or exit the country. These restrictions are typically intended to safeguard national security or preserve business ecosystems.

That said, in some countries official policy may differ from actual practice. Modern countries may have unintentionally open borders. These countries either have no laws at all regarding their border policy or have a more restrictive border policy that goes unenforced because the government lacks the funding to finance proper border controls.

While open borders are currently extinct at the international level, multiple countries have had open borders at times throughout history. The early United States, for instance, owed the majority of its population to unfettered immigration enabled by an open border policy and easy citizenship process. Today, however, the situation has changed. U.S. immigration is tightly controlled and the country has gone from being one of the easiest countries to immigrate to to one of most challenging countries to immigrate to thanks to more restrictive policies.

Top 10 countries with most open borders:
Singapore 6.03
Hong Kong 5.81
Sweden 5.65
Switzerland 5.57
Denmark 5.56
Germany 5.55
Netherlands 5.55
Canada 5.54
United Kdm 5.4
France 5.36

The US is 15th.
https://worldpopulationreview.com/country-rankings...

In the past decade we've become the 7th hardest country to immigrate to. (Biden had switched and was hardening.)

Did you follow the evolution of border policy on this board?

The largest undocumented alien population are those who flew in and overstayed. So have you followed border policy? Our current biggest problem is lack of money - to give people meaningful due process we need to set up additional administrators for hearings, more judges, and everything that accompanies that. The bill that had the money and the additional process was 86d by Trump to help his campaign.

To boost the number of illegals being shipped out of the country without inhumane and unconstitutional drama will take lots of money - thus self deport.

“ Did you follow the evolution of border policy on this board?“ Good morning, how many hours a day would it take to, “ follow”, every spitball fight on this board? With all due respect I can watch msnbc and Fox 6 hours a day for most of this content. Simple question, did team Biden pressure social media sites aka, FB Twitter, etc to control the narrative and censor content during the Biden administration? Is team Trump currently pressuring FB to delete posts that are derogatory toward him? Thank you.

"CBP releases March 2025 monthly update
Release Date Mon, 04/14/2025
WASHINGTON — U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) released operational statistics today for March 2025. CBP monthly reporting can be viewed on CBP’s Stats and Summaries webpage.

“U.S. Border Patrol’s apprehensions along the southwest border for the entire month of March 2025 were lower than the first two days of March 2024,” said Pete Flores, Acting Commissioner of CBP. “This is a testament to the tireless dedication and vigilant service of the men and women of U.S. Customs and Border Protection, who work every day to keep our country safe. Their commitment on the front lines plays a vital role in securing our borders and protecting American communities.”

Below are key operational statistics for CBP’s primary mission areas in March 2025."

“ Did you follow the evolution of border policy on this board?“

So your answer is no with sass.

Simple question, did team Biden pressure social media sites aka, FB Twitter, etc to control the narrative and censor content during the Biden administration?

Asked and answered.

SNIP
In the telling of Donald Trump and his Republican colleagues, the US media is fake news, stocked with “radical-left monsters” who are guilty of “illegal” reporting on the president.

The reality is different.

Since the president’s election, a number of US news organizations have appeared to bend to his will, with a growing number of examples of billionaire owners seemingly setting aside journalistic independence in favor of staying in Trump’s good grace.

Despite that acquiescence, Trump has continued to threaten journalists, branding pollsters “negative criminals” who “should be investigated for election fraud”. In April, he attacked “radical lunatic Democrats and their comrades in the fake news media”, adding: “Those lying to the American People on behalf of violent criminals have to be held responsible by the Agencies and the Courts.”

The attacks overlook the ways in which some outlets have submitted to Trump’s will – either by executives settling frivolous lawsuits or wealthy owners interfering to avoid upsetting Trump.

Jeff Bezos, the Washington Post owner, ordered an overhaul to the paper’s editorial pages in February that effectively muzzled the newspaper’s criticism of Trump. The Los Angeles Times dropped its endorsement of Kamala Harris under pressure from Patrick Soon-Shiong, its billionaire owner.

In December, ABC News settled a Trump lawsuit, in a move first amendment experts said could foster more attacks on the media. And in another blow, the owner of CBS News is said to be considering settling a $10bn lawsuit brought against the network over the editing of a Kamala Harris interview.

The New York Times reported that lawyers for Paramount were planning to mediate with Trump over the issue, despite legal experts dismissing the lawsuit as frivolous. CBS said its show 60 Minutes edited one of Harris’s answers for time, a normal journalistic practice. Paramount is in talks to be sold to Skydance, a sale that needs approval from the Trump administration. Shari Redstone, Paramount’s controlling shareholder, would land a huge windfall if the deal went ahead, and has told Paramount’s board of directors she is in favor of settling with Trump, according to the Times.

“The people bowing to Trump are the owners of all of these media outlets, or top management,” said Heather Hendershot, a professor of communication studies and journalism at Northwestern University.

“It’s hugely problematic, and it’s absolutely driven by their bottom lines. Jeff Bezos doesn’t need to make money off of the Washington Post. He could break even, or lose money on the Washington Post, and he would be just fine, but it could make trouble for him and his other business enterprises, so he’d rather toe [Trump’s] line.”

It wasn’t always this way. Hendershot drew a comparison with how CBS handled a complaint in the 1970s, over its The Selling of the Pentagon documentary. Back then, CBS was ordered to hand over all film and sound recordings from the film, but the president of CBS, Frank Stanton, refused the subpoena from the House commerce committee, risking going to jail.

The current-day CBS leadership appears to be less stout. In January, CBS decided to comply with the FCC’s request to release the “full, unedited transcript and camera feeds” of the Harris interview.

Semafor reported that the potential for Redstone to meddle in 60 Minutes’ reporting is what led Bill Owens, the show’s executive producer, to leave the flagship news program earlier this year.

“Over the past months, it has become clear that I would not be allowed to run the show as I have always run it, to make independent decisions based on what was right for 60 Minutes, right for the audience,” Owens said at the time.

Last week, eight US senators, including Bernie Sanders, wrote a letter to Redstone and Paramount Global’s board describing the lawsuit as “an attack on the United States Constitution and the First Amendment” and urging them not to settle with Trump.

“It has absolutely no merit and it cannot stand,” the senators said. They said Trump’s lawsuit is “a blatant attempt to intimidate the media and those who speak out against him”.

CBS News does not appear to have allowed the lawsuit to affect its coverage. Earlier this month, 60 Minutes ran a long report on Trump’s presidential orders targeting law firms.

“In recent weeks, President Trump has signed orders against several law firms – orders with the power to destroy them,” 60 Minutes host Scott Pelley said at the start of the show. “That matters because lawsuits have been a check on the president’s power.”

Matt Gertz, a senior fellow at Media Matters for America, a watchdog group, said CBS News “continued to do hard-hitting reporting on the Trump administration”.

“Will they still be able to do that six months, a year, down the road? We don’t know,” Gertz said.

“The fact that we need to have these conversations, the fact that we have the president openly pushing for investigations into particular media outlets – and that we have those institutions, apparently in response, trying to find ways to assuage him – all of that is not something we should be comfortable with in a liberal democracy.”

Gertz said some owners made a miscalculation in bowing to Trump, overestimating his support among voters and thus his ability to target whichever institutions he chooses. But recent polling has shown that Trump is deeply unpopular, with even his support among Republicans falling.
The loss of editorial freedom at 60 Minutes is a sorry milestone for US media
Margaret Sullivan
Margaret Sullivan

“The landscape is moving quickly under the feet of some of these corporate media owners, and they should recognize that and grow spines and try to protect the crown jewels of the US free press that they are overseeing,” Gertz said.

There is also the sense that settling with Trump over a particular issue could be a fool’s errand. Trump’s insistence on fawning, unquestioning coverage means even he is likely to continue to be upset by mainstream media coverage – even if an organization has cowed to him on a previous story.

Good point. They don’t. Though, as you know, the Biden admin had pretty much put a stop to “uncontrolled” boarder crossings, after the nixing of the bipartisan bill by Trump. Now I agree they SHOULD have done it far, far sooner. And you might not trust another Dem admin to not open it up again.

We do need immigration, though, right? We need folks to paint the houses, mow the grass*, pick the crops.

* BTW my grass cutter for 15 years is a white guy and his wife. We had to insist they raise their rate. They work April-October, make 6 figures, and take the winter off, camping in their huge travel trailer in the south somewhere. They have a pretty good thing going.

But, everyone has to be vetted, who is coming in , and do they want to live the American dream or change it? Team Biden should have continued the Obama , Jeh Johnson border policy. Not doing so cost the Dems the election. Vance is a very bright, articulate, young guy. He’s way too conservative for me but if he talks the economics of open borders to minority voters, he might get 25 percent of black women in 28, he’s no joke. He can come across that way, but he's also a sleazebag of the first order. I haven't watched a whole lot of him, but I saw all I need to know in that ridiculous meeting where he tried to humiliate Zelensky in front of the world, but in the eyes of a lot of us and around the world just humiliated himself as being a dickhead. Unfortunately for the rest of us, he's a dickhead with a lot of power.

Character matters. And if you don't think so--many Trump supporters seem not to, in fact it's virtually a requirement--you'll find out why. Probably too late, if you haven't seen it by now.

Seriously, when did Americans get this f*cking stupid?

When they turned over their brains to the Right Wing Sound Machine, and then proudly proclaimed they were “red-pilled” which enabled them to see clearly through the deadly schemes of the deep state.

Unfortunately, only the hard consequences that follow from fighting reality will wake them up.

Also unfortunately, many of us will be caught in the backblast.

We should never forget what is coming directly at all of us, nor the factors and people who enabled it.

And we will all be implicated to varying degrees. So be it.

I heard an up-ed yesterday that not only is maga not making America great, but is also assuring we will never be great again.

Points raised were alienating our allies, enabling our enemies, and showing that we are unreliable. So nations are making plans that don't depend or include us. This, the American leadership role had ended, and will likely never be recovered.

Maga made us not-great anymore.

In effect, Trump is 'bankrupting' America's reputation; probably damaged beyond repair.

At the same time, he is bankrupting the US economically.

"Common , going one on one with you is like playing tennis against a blind 8 year old so I’ll go slowly" - Harvey "Harold" Cohn in Las Vegas.

LOL

Go have some milk and take a nap. You are tired and being irrational again.

Do you know where your "Harold" moniker came from? From your closest friends. The one time I met you in person was in a sportsbook in Vegas around a big sporting event (Maybe The Orleans, maybe Southpoint, maybe Red Rock, I don't remember exactly). Anyway, I was with a friend who knew one of your friends and wanted to catch up with him. So we met him at the sportsbook. You were there and your friend introduced to you to us. You immediately started talking your nonsense. When called out on something you were clearly wrong about, you did your usual red herring and pretended we were talking about something else (Like you say something like the Yankees are playing the Red Sox, then when it is pointed out to you that the Yankees are in fact playing the Orioles, you will then say "Do you not think Aaron Judge is the best hitter in baseball?" and pretend we were talking about hitters).

So you spouted your nonsense, then when called out on it spouted some nonsense on a different subject. Everyone sort of stopped talking and internally rolled their eyes letting you rant. Then you said you were going to place a bet. While you were away, my friend looked at your friend and said "Wow. He reminds me of my crazy Uncle Harold." Your friend then goes "Yeah, we all have crazy Uncle Harolds in our lives." Then for then next hour everyone called you Harold behind your back. Even the guy you said was a good friend. After moving to Vegas I occasionally see the guy you call a good friend. We always have a laugh over Harold.
