On April 6, justice Alito, in the case of West Virginia vs B.P.J. said the high court should grant emergency relief because it should set aside the reasons why the criteria are not satisfied.

Yesterday in the Danco case, justice Alito said the majority was wrongly granting emergency relief in a case in which he was not convinced the criteria are satisfied.

Hhmmm.

He also ignored the issue of standing and tongue-lashed the three liberal women justices in his dissent.

Now tell me again that the current conservative supreme court is not corrupt.

It was money and power that led to this SCOTUS. It's fairly clear now that many on the right don't give a (explicative deleted) about the Constitution or our Democratic Republic.

No, that's not clear at all.

Apparently you are forgetting it is the Democrats who clamor to eliminate the Electoral College, or to create a couple new Blue states, or pack the Supreme Court. Not saying the Republicans are entirely innocent but neither are sanctimonious Democrats.

You forgot you packed the Supreme court by gaming the system? You forget your gerrymandering, voter suppression, voter requirements that hinder voting? A basic tenet of Republicans is they are better off the fewer people that vote, and sometimes speak this quiet part out loud. I'm one who lives with the electoral system and tell people I have never known advantages such as that to be given up unless they think it's advantageous, so it isn't going away during our lifetimes. It means the Pres doesn't win by the popular vote 12-15% of the time. I live with that. Gerry in gerrymandering was one of thew founding fathers, so it's been going on for a long time. If we legislate against it, it gets diluted and ruled against and comes back. We need amendments, but those can be "interpreted", etc., so as a result I question if we are a representative democracy. It's very clear, in spite of Dope, that many of the Republicans think it's OK to trash the system as long as it means they win. We have a system that depends on norms, etc., and it's very vulnerable it appears.

bighairymike: Apparently you are forgetting it is the Democrats who clamor to eliminate the Electoral College...

Yes, especially this well-known democrat who just happens to be the leader of the republican party, Donald Trump: "The electoral college is a disaster for a democracy. A total sham and a travesty. I would rather see it, where you went with simple votes. You know, you get 100 million votes, and somebody else gets 90 million votes, and you win."

bighairymike: ...or to create a couple new Blue states...

There's been interest in making Puerto Rico and DC states for quite some time. As far as I know, it has not yet happened. And Long Island is larger than Rhode Island and more populous than most existing states. In short, not a bad idea.

bighairymike: ...or pack the Supreme Court.

That's rich. In case you missed it, the republicans already did that by refusing to bring forward the Garland nomination and by turning over the nominating process to the Heritage Foundation.
