My understanding is that support for an independent Palestinian state - the "two state solution" - is pretty much dead in Israel. The election may turn out Netnayahu's coalition from power, but any other government will also reject Palestinian statehood. Perhaps just as firmly as the current government. It's now pretty much a core position of the electorate to oppose Palestinian sovereignty, and the new government (if there is a change) will certainly reflect that.
That is true. Part of it is the world wide trend toward right wing racism and bigotry, which I think is awful. Mainly, it's a reaction to the trauma of Oct. 7, 2023 and the two year hostage crisis that followed. Hamas may have been decimated by the war, but they succeeded unbelievable in their effort to foment hatred on both sides, aided to no small degree by Netanyahu and his government.
I believe, or at least I still hope, that if a new more moderate government takes over, the public's turn to extremism can be gradually reversed. The alternative is bleak for Israel's survival.
