As a kid I didn't get the real point of it, but those jokes had a way of spreading racism, something it took me a while to understand.

Yep. The tactic now includes accusing those who take offense to vile jokes of "having no sense of humor," or "being woke" or "Being too sensitive."

I had a real cringey reaction for a while to the popularity of wehrmacht helmets and swastikas in surf culture. The term 'surf nazis was popular for a while. Still hear it. Still don't like it. I suppose that's the Trump element that pollutes the surf these days. Yeah, it's out there.
