Did a bit of mapping. Apparently almost an 11 hour train ride to Budapest from Venice (where the cruise ends). Maybe do it as an overnight train? Or the scenery is not to be missed, in which case we'd need to stop somewhere along the way for a day or so. Probably Vienna, since most of the trains go through Vienna before going to Budapest.
I suppose I could rearrange the itinerary I had in my head to do Venice to Vienna, few days there, then Vienna to Budapest. Several days there. Then on to Prague.
Seems an inefficient route, but if that's where the trains go, that's what I may have to do. I would rather not rent a car. Traffic signs are very different, and I don't know what many of them mean. Plus road markings (like zig-zag lines near a curb). Trains are less hassle, plus I can actually look out the window to see things.
