I'm not sure if it's to directly influence the companies involved, or so the government can profit off the contracts it awards.

According to Google's AI sifter, the Commerce Dept holds the Intel stock. The POTUS votes the US Steel "golden share". Treasury receives the 15% skim from chip sales to China.

Seems the administration is eyeing more equity positions.

Some months ago, there was chatter about a US "sovereign wealth fund", but such funds are usually run by countries that have a budget surplus, not Trillions of debt. I recall some chatter about funding being obtained by selling timber and mineral rights on Federal land.
