All well and good, but what power do courts have to actually enforce anything?

About the only power I know of is putting people in jail for contempt until they comply.

But I have to ask the obvious: if the gov't admitted they made a mistake in deporting Abrego-Garcia, why the hell don't they just bring him back?

That is the question the judge is trying to get to.

My guess is that it is an authoritarian power play. They want to do whatever the heck they want with no oversight and no questions.
