Anyone looking at this one as an alternative to BABA and Tencent?

I have some already from the Tencent spin off, however I have been looking at them further on the basis of free cash flow generation and trading at a low multiple.

Chinese Amazon with all the sheds etc and operating with better margins.

10 year view.

I guess it depends on why you're looking for an alternative.
If you've been burnt on BABA because of (ahem) jurisdiction issues, JD isn't really much of an alternative.
If your sea front property gets flooded, you probably don't want to avoid that probably by buying the one next door.

Not one I'd considered before but it popped up that Howard Marks had placed a purchase. Watching a few interviews, he says he found valuations in China compelling and that the time to buy is when there's pessimism. I think he may be right.

You may be basing this on Dataroma's tracker for Oaktree: https://www.dataroma.com/m/holdings.php?m=oc. I think the site has mislabeled Oaktree's equity portfolio by attributing it to Howard Marks. Yes, he is a co-founder and Co-Chairman of the firm. But he specializes in distressed debt, high-yield bonds, etc. I very much doubt he is the person at Oaktree who decided to buy JD.com.

He specifically referred to Chinese equities in the interview. JD then appeared on the Qtr buy list following.
