Oh, man.
I might have to take up smoking. This is sooooo good:
https://thepostmillennial.com/game-on-incoming-bor...President-elect Donald Trump's pick for border czar, Tom Homan, blasted Illinois Governor JB Pritzker over his recent promise to keep Illinois as a sanctuary state, vying to prevent deportations from occurring.
After the blue state governor made the pledge upon Trump's win against Kamala Harris, Homan responded on Charlie Kirk's podcast, "Game on. We’ve got no problem going through him. I’ve got 20,000 men and women in ICE who are going to do their job with no apology." Pritzker, Newsom and incoming Washington State governor Bob Ferguson will huff and puff and ultimately not do a damn thing about workplace raids. They know that if they send their state police or something to interfere they're opening themselves up to federal obstruction charges.

"And if any governor wants to stand in the way, go ahead and do it. We’ll see what happens. We’re not gonna be intimidated," Homan added. Pritzker said that the state of Illinois would be prepared to bring a lawsuit against the federal government if it withholds public funding over the sanctuary state policies.
Game on, indeed.

Last time, the Feds seemed to want to co-op local police. Local police explained that to keep crime down they need the cooperation of immigrant communities. So we're going to create a condition where community cooperation may stop, increasing crime, by withholding Federal funds, so we can get and deport criminals. Sounds like lose-lose to me. I want less crime. So let the Governor make statements, ask for his cooperation in deporting criminals and I think you'll get that cooperation.

Wait a second. Weren't you on team "there is no crime crisis"? Seems incongruent for you to say you want less crime when there's no crime crisis now.
At any rate, federal law trumps state law and cities can be compelled via federal court to hand over detainees who are on ICE watch lists.

Straw man. My view hasn't changed at all. I've studied parts of crime in different countries. The forensic science shows don't show that a lot of crimes are solved by shoe leather. You walk around and talk to people and if they cooperate, that helps you solve the crime. So if you've scared all of the immigrants, legal or not, they'll avoid you and won't cooperate. Your ability to solve crimes plummets.
As I've said before Duterte became President of PI, the murder rate was 9.5% per 100k, when his antidrug plan was in effect it went up to 11.5%. And the murder solution rate was ~ 21.5% and dropped. Guess why it was 21.5%.
Go ahead, compel away, deport all the criminals, but be humane in the process. Mistakes will happen, but let's not create inhuman conditions.

So your observation here is the crime is solved by...police work...and that means detectives and cops talking to witnesses and gathering evidence. That's fascinating. Who knew?
But your larger point is that we should ignore illegal immigration because it might make it tougher to solve local crimes. Yeah, not so much. Maybe let's get rid of the violent illegals first and then perhaps just from that we'll see a reduction in other crimes. Things like drugs, gang activity, human trafficking, that sort of thing.

Yeah - I think that's his point, though. If illegal immigrants who are victims of crime run the risk of being found out and deported if they report the crime to the police, they're going to stop doing that. If illegal immigrants who are witnesses to crimes end up getting found out and deported when the defense cross-examines them, they're going to stop providing that information to the police. Which can make crimes like drugs, gang activity, human trafficking and that sort of thing more difficult to police.
When "snitches get stitches," it makes fighting crime harder. When "crime reported gets you deported," the same thing may happen.

His argument boils down to allowing some crime over here to occur so we can solve some other theoretical crime over there later. I reject that framing. Completely.
A lot of the people victimized in the entire process wouldn't be once the scumbags are gone. That's especially true for those affected by the illicit drug trade and human trafficking operations the cartels engage in.

Good thing we're going to start enforcing the laws again, and do our best to make crime...illegal.

It seems Albaby has enlightened you. We need people to be able to talk to the police without repercussions. It doesn't take much to have cooperation stop. And, as I told you, if you ask the locals to cooperate in deporting criminals, I think you'll get the cooperation. If you want everyone deported - cooperation will be limited.
