'Trump vs Biden: Gun violence in Joe Biden's US sees a sharp escalation'

snip
'According to the Gun Violence Archive, the United States saw 44,868 gun deaths in Biden's first year as president.'

'The total number of murders, justifiable self-defence homicides, and accidental homicides involving firearms were 20,783 in 2021, compared to 15,727 in 2017 when Trump took office.
This means that in the past few years alone, gun violence has increased by 32 per cent.'

snip
'It is alarming to note, that there were 693 mass shootings in 2021, up from 348 in 2017. In addition, there were 1,060 deaths or injuries among children, compared to 724 in 2017.'

'As a candidate, the president pledged to end the epidemic of gun violence, but as our leader in the White House, he has simply tinkered at the edges, rather than coordinating a whole-of-government response that treats this crisis like the emergency that it is."

Honestly LM, you really need to get with reality.

If you truly think increased gun violence has ANYTHING to do with Biden, well, to put it mildly you are full of it, and lost in the RW echo chamber.

Look at all the laws and policies that the right keeps passing/promoting loosening gun laws. Look at all the hatred that they promote constantly that clearly leads to many of the mass murders we are seeing.

I thought you went away and promised not to return. Please keep your promises. You have nothing of value to offer to discussions here.

LurkerMom: Gun violence in Joe Biden's US sees a sharp escalation...

Umm.

According to the U.S. National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF), the United States conducted 21 million background checks for gun purchases in 2020, a 60 percent increase from 2019 and a record high, surpassing the previous record in 2016 by 5.3 million.

2020.

Every 16 hours, a woman is fatally shot by her partner in the United States.

In 1968, the House voted 305-118 and the Senate 70-17 to pass the Gun Control Act. Today, you'd be hard pressed to find a single republican who would would for sensible gun control.

Lots more guns + lots more laws making it lots easier for any idiot to own and carry guns = more gun violence.

Ain't rocket science.

And it's up to Congress, not the president, to legislate gun safety; otherwise you'll be screaming EO overreach (and the courts will strike down his EOs anyway) 'cause freedum!

From the "lying with statistics" crowd. Here is some more complete data. when they used Trumps "first year" as a data point, I knew something was off.
total gun deaths:
2017 (trumps first year) 15,749
2020 (trumps last year) 43,737 (WOW!)
2022 (latest full year data) 44,355

I am not sure how this foots with your numbers, but I got these from here:

Commonone said, 'And it's up to Congress, not the president, to legislate gun safety; otherwise you'll be screaming EO overreach (and the courts will strike down his EOs anyway) 'cause freedum!'

But Commonone ignored what candidate Biden pledged per the article.

'As a candidate, the president pledged to end the epidemic of gun violence, but as our leader in the White House, he has simply tinkered at the edges, rather than coordinating a whole-of-government response that treats this crisis like the emergency that it is."

Any candidate that says they will end the epidemic of gun violence is lying. Dem or Rep, they're lying. They can't do anything. Even if they were prone to legislating, the SCOTUS (in its current form) would shoot it down. As albaby in the prior weeks was explaining, legislating it will have minimal effect anyway (e.g. mental health screenings, etc). You would have to go further (which even albaby says he didn't support).

The only way that I can see is to follow the Japan model, or the Aussie model, or the Switzerland model. But all of those would be reversed by SCOTUS, so there isn't really any point. We'll just have to tolerate untold dozens of innocent people getting shot every week until the People demand action from their leaders. Which could happen in a generation or so. 1poorkid's friends mostly hate guns. If that is common in her generation, we just have to wait until they take the reins of power and do something. Our generation will do nothing.
