The week's question
In March 2025, in the thread "Re: OT, out", Umm asked the members: "Do you think it is because America is made up of magical soil that makes businesses based in America magically profitable?" This week it is put to everyone again. The button below opens the small thread re-asking it - read what others have said so far, then give your own answer as an ordinary reply.

I bought some COF L yesterday Yahoo Finance: Capital One Financial Corporation (COF-PL) Stock Price, News, Quote & History

Around 7.46% yield

I bought it in taxable account as their dividends are treated as qualified dividend. I feel even though capital one has much more cyclical business than BAC or other, but very solid company and solid finances.

I also have lot of PSA preferred cumulative one (yielding at 7.15% currently but I bought at like 6.9 - 7% yield) - ira account. PSA has more stable business and predictable cash flow - and cumulative. So liked it.

Separately, anyone buying TIPS? from chatgpt
---------
Current real yields are approximately:
- Five-year TIPS: 2.72%
- Ten-year TIPS: 2.91%
- Twenty-year TIPS: 3.15%
- Thirty-year TIPS: 3.29%
These are inflation-adjusted Treasury returns. A ten-year TIPS bought around a 2.9% real yield should deliver roughly inflation plus 2.9% if held to maturity
-----------

I have purchased TIPS and long term treasuries also but not sure it is a good idea anymore given how fast yields are going up and prices dropping. I had no exposure to bond, so wanted to get in. Probably should have waited little longer.
