not sure this is significant, nor a positive.
first, ackman just failed in his attempt to pull a major grift with his own biz, as institutional shareholders did not take the bait on a overvalued restructure.
add that on top of ackman's other antics, and brookfield is not exactly landing the type of shareholder that will improve their perception.
it would be rather entertaining if ackman felt his stake privileged him to be some activist voice at brookfield.

I suppose the ideal, for perception, would be to have not only people who are generally Democrats like Ackman, but Democrats who never disagree with their own party's policy choices. However, I doubt that most investors really care about this. And most investors have not followed the saga of Ackman's investment vehicles, nor care very much about them, and most of those who are well informed about them would not characterize them as 'grift'.

I doubt that is his intention, although if it were to try to simplify the structure of these companies, or make more transport disclosures of directors' incomes, that might be a very good thing. I sold my shares a few years ago and every time I look at it for possibly reinvesting, I get confused and give up.

first, am certain ackman is nothing but a flea to the brookfield elephant, but fleas are sometime pathogen vectors.
ackman must be wondering where all you well informed apologists were when he really needed you to buy into his CEF of public securities at prices above NAV?? CEFs with good track records trade at a discount, and ackman's own european one does as well.
now abandoned, it appears institutions and retail did not have to be overly informed to pay $11 for $10. not illegal to ask, but grift for sure. hell, trump flogs things worth $0, also not illegal.
in fairness, ackman not always acted a miscreant. he did try to expose the herbalife pyramid scheme until too much of of his own money was at risk, and suddenly his self-righteousness and conviction met its match. he found more 1-sided battles to pursue.

Yes, you and I agree there, except that I can't think of ANY instance when he acted as a miscreant.
I wasn't interested in buying his new fund above net asset value, but I don't blame him for trying.
And while it probably made business sense to cover the Herbalife short at around $80 a share five years ago (his funds have done very well since then), he has been proved entirely right about the company, which now trades for $7.
