Yes, it is. That's why I retired early. Both 1poorlady and I had some health scares, and we realized we better get to living before we are unable to. (Four weeks of vacation per year -which is what my company allowed- was far too restrictive.) So we assessed our finances, ran some simulators (one at FIDO, another one I got from "retireearlyhomepage", and another I forgot now), and when it showed we could do it, we put in our notices.

But...

For democracy to work, the people have to be informed and involved (i.e. at the minimum, show up to vote). So, while it was easy and a bit fun to ridicule Trump about "cofefe" (or whatever the hell he said), I agree that it was "small stuff". Jan 6 was NOT small stuff. Trying to fix the election was NOT small stuff. I can't speak for anyone else, but that is what I'm outraged about. However, it appears the justice system is in motion, so I'm content to let the wheels turn, and let the system work.

And what is alarming is that people seem to shrug-off the parallels between the rise of MAGA and the rise of the NAZI party. By no means identical, and different systems were in place. But, as they say, history is rhyming. If you know that history, you should probably be a bit worried. It may peter-out, but so far it hasn't. Without going back to old posts, some of the characteristics included appeal to a mythic past that never really existed, blame of "the other", claims that "only I can fix it", vilifying media that doesn't support you, encouraging your followers to do bad things, etc. The list posted previously was spot-on, and Trump ticked several of those line items. The playbook is the playbook, no matter who uses it (left or right). And that playbook is contrary to having a democracy and peaceful transfer of power.

So I don't care if he cheats on Melania, or what "cofefe" meant, or what Baron had for lunch yesterday, or any of that. I do care about actions that subvert (or attempt to subvert) the democratic process.
