What the US sorely needs in place of crappy corporate run dollar and other convenience stores - the UK style family run corner shops. Maybe hard to do in rural areas, but wish we had them in urban/suburban areas.

But it can be done even in a remote Wyoming truck stop, so maybe it is possible in more rural settings too.

We have one here in Ohio, about a half mile from the house. I'd shop there more if I could walk to it, like I used to walk to the corner shops in the UK. Here the car culture is so strong. No sidewalks.

My wife (American) prefers the Dollar General type stores to the UK corner shops. She thinks the corner shops she's seen are very expensive, which is likely true. You pay up for convenience.
