Arafat's situation was no different than White Liberals in America: If certain minority groups ever stopped their kids from having kids, had intact marriages and nuclear families, stopped listening to how everything from AIDS to SAT scores is rigged against them, and decided to emulate the other non-white groups in America who are crushing it....and dancing at their kid's 6 figure weddings instead of bailing their kids out of jail or ---just running away from their kids.
.....White Liberals and their fear messages would be weakened and with it their political power AND their lifelong desire to keep paternalistic dominion over certain people.
Anytime a politician or ideology is based on fear and resentment - this is the tact.
Sadly there's some of that on the Right these days also. IF certain constituencies were not told "those guys will turn your sons into gay muslims and dudes in dresses are gonna diddle your daughters in the men's washroom".....maybe some states and regions would see their people say "hmmmm, I may wanna put down this book about 2 naked people screwing in the jungle until a snake tricked them into eating an apple and then how the Almighty God sent his son to get the crap kicked out of him without even taking karate lessons at the local YMCA"....and mayyyybe look into science, or mortality, or lifespan and start making more demands of my tenured legislators.
Mind you - I used to call Arafat a terrorist and on that - I sincerely apologize.
