what i mean : some asset\investment trump&cronies would ignore , below his radar, too boring, etc...

last year, i was thinking it could be the tax-free bond arena, and that thread fizzled since the shrewd bond board is mostly dead :

in many ways, munis and such are at the opposite end of trump crypto grift and his taste in failed businesses.
thinking a bit further, if trump&cronies have no stake here, it could become a target for any number of irrational reasons.
and if it does become a target for trump\DOGE\MAGA since they have no way to personally benefit, then fiscal impact would be amplified into a societal one.

Honestly, take it over to TMF (and link here, please!).

Shrewd seems to do well in general socializing, but not a lot of financial talk. The Retirement board gets a few posts a week.

I check in on TMF occasionally. Their home maintenance board is much more active than the Shrewd equivalent, for example.

FWIW, I would love to be able to move our assets to Swiss banks. Pretty much untouchable. True, they wouldn't survive a nuclear war, but then neither would the value of any currency. So that point is moot.

Honestly, I have no idea how to do that. I'm not a wealthy oligarch with accountants that "handle that". But shielding my cash and investments from possible confiscation would be good.

Though you seemed to be talking more about safe investments, rather than safe countries (e.g. bonds?). They aren't touching too much on that in that thread.

And, as an aside, Canada wouldn't want most of us. If you're retired, they definitely don't want you. You need to have a marketable skill, and be of an age that you can contribute to their tax base for many years. I once looked it up...they have a point system. Various features get you points, and enough points gets you an immigrant visa.

am ok to see this thread lapse here, but disagree on 2 points.

* tax-free asset class is critical to american society\policy.
in the primitive days of gop propaganda, it was seen as the best way to handle infrastructure via local and private stakes, since 100% federal control is 'too wasteful'.
this was not posted for safe haven options on fleeing america, per tmf.

* plenty of shrewd boards focus on investing, with some macro\policy comments mixed in.
