Here in California the federal government does not except or recognize standard issued California CDL's or ID's. The reason is that the State of California issues those to all illegal aliens and or others that can not prove they are an American citizen.

The Fed has no objection (that I'm aware of) to the issuance of a CDL for driving purposes. I got the RealID upon renewal but IINM, could have been issued a standard, non RealID, CDL that would only be valid for driving purposes.

If I only had the DMV issue a CDL for driving and got pulled over for speeding in FLA, I doubt a local cop would care that it's not a 'California Real ID."
