The week's question
In December 2024, in the thread "Re: BRK: Why Not XOM?", BreckHutHigh asked the members: "What about the long road trips with kids?" This week it is put to everyone again. The button below opens the small thread re-asking it - read what others have said so far, then give your own answer as an ordinary reply.

Trump is literally admitting here that January 6th was about trying to overturn the election.

He's not using the term "January 6th" the way he would need to in order for that to have any real relevance.

On January 6th, there was a concerted effort by the Trump campaign to have members of Congress and/or the VP vote in way that would (in their mind) keep open a path for him to contest the election and be declared the winner. That effort was probably not criminal. You're allowed to lobby Congressfolk. You're allowed to lobby the VP. If a law provides for them to take a vote to reject the electoral results, then it's almost certainly not criminal for them to vote to reject the electoral results. And therefore, it's almost certainly not criminal for people to try to persuade them to vote to reject the electoral results.

He's certainly not admitting that he engaged in a deliberate effort to accomplish that same goal using the violence of a mob.
