From Joyce Vance today:
If Trump’s DOJ goes after Smith’s team, claiming their prosecutions were political, the ensuing litigation would almost certainly reveal the full scope of the Special Counsel’s office investigation and the evidence that was compiled against Donald Trump and others. Defending themselves against claims their prosecution wasn’t legitimate would necessarily call for a full account of the investigation and the basis for prosecutors’ decision to indict. Trump should remember that old adage: Be careful what you ask for.

Trump doesn't have to go after them. He just fires the,. Then he investigates who he wants, and does so by innuendo and implication. Maybe he gets lucky and something falls out of the sky for him, a mistake somewhere that takes on a life of its own, so he gets a lot of mileage out of it. But he doesn't need it, it can all be done by innuendo.
