Apparently Meta lost a case regarding the addictiveness of their platforms (and not enforcing age limits). Seems like it is opening a flood gate for lawsuits. Legal Eagle is suing.
YouTube: I'm Suing Meta, TikTok, Snap (LegalEagle)Not exactly US Policy, but lots of people get their information from such platforms. In this case, the pre-teen got addicted, and transferred her self-worth into "likes" in her accounts. She wasn't even eligible to have an account, but Meta didn't care.
I wonder how much this will affect such platforms. In principle, enough lawsuits could drain them dry, and they would have to file for bankruptcy. Don't know if they have lawsuit insurance (don't know the specific name for that coverage...sort of like malpractice for doctors).
FWIW, I thought FB was a fine idea 15 years ago, despite its misogynistic origins. Family and friends keeping in touch. But it morphed into a hideous monster. I deleted my account 10 years ago. Expunged it. To this day, I won't click on a FB link. Not giving them clicks to earn money.
