Years ago, in fact, decades ago, in a small town in Oklahoma, over late morning coffee at the “Village Inn” on Main Street, a crusty old farmer wearing an insulated vest and John Deere hat told me:
“Watch out for them oily smooth-talkin’ businessmen who smile at you and the first words out of their mouths is ‘I’m a Christian businessman.’
Don’t shake their hands, but if you do, you’d better be sure to check that you still have your rings and wristwatch when you finish shaking his hand.”
I’ve always remembered that.
And I think of it every time I see a photograph of Mike Johnson

I actually agree 100% with what you said.
But it's curious how it's ok to profile Christians (which you make sport out of) but not the throngs of blacks in prison, or the Muslims raping deserving Europeans.
No sterotyping them ....no way.
But Christians? Whites? Let's don the rainbow colored hoods.

I don’t make fun of Christians. Nor do I punch down at those who lack the resources to defend themselves.
But I do make fun of those who claim to be Christian, but whose lives actions, and words bear no resemblance to the life of Jesus or what he taught.

I kinda stare in horror too as some want to mete out punishments based on weird interpretations of how the bible applies to modern times. AS old SLL used to say, "how difficult is it to understand not to hurt anyone?" Yet, they are consumed with hate and the end days, choosing politicians not based on how Xtian they are, but on whether they'll force women to have kids, or make moves to help Israel rebuild the Temple.

Old SLL was a champion for killing babies in the womb, how hurtful was that?

It was going on during Jesus time, wasn't specifically mentioned in the bible, which could be for some reasons:
1. God forgot to mention it in the bible, it slipped his mind because he was more upset with all the people taking his name in vain or not observing the sabbath.
2. He was setting a trap because he wanted to send all the people who believed in him but got abortions and all his priests that advised abortions to hell, but he forgot to mention pedophiles.
3. God wants you to think seriously about getting an abortion, since we killed off one the plants that helped induce abortions, etc., but he doesn't think it rises to he level of killing someone, or taking his name in vain. Goddamit, can't you see? 🤔
"Ancient texts, like the "ordeal of bitter waters" in Numbers 5:11-31, describe procedures that were most likely abortifacients, which was a practice in the ancient world."
4. He saved this big moral divide so it could help stage the comeback of despotism in the end times.
5. God doesn't think abortion is bad - he designed the system so that a million tons of fetuses would be killed or stillborn every year. He would get upset if you let the baby die after it was born, except that survival calls for the fittest to survive at times.
6. God woke up when money hit the coffers and immediately decided that abortion was bad.
7. More will be revealed to you in time.

Probably a little less hurtful than the current Republican position of forcing women to give birth and then slowly starving the babies to death.
Plenty of money to give tax cuts for billionaires but not a penny to spend on food for the poor.
Priorities.

It’s a name she applied to me earlier.
I have no idea what it means, but it must mean something to her, because she’s mentioned it twice.
Perhaps she will grace us with an explanation.

I actually looked up the abbreviation. Apparently, in clinical settings, the term R/A is used for “rheumatoid arthritis”, so perhaps she was just calling me an old fart.
