Trump is doing catch and release. He should get the detention centers built and smooth out deportation b4 drafting other agencies crew. It isn't an emergency and pulling IRS criminal investigators sends a green light to that crowd.
SNIP WASHINGTON—The Department of Homeland Security has asked Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent to deputize some law-enforcement workers, including IRS criminal investigators, to assist in immigration enforcement, according to documents viewed by The Wall Street Journal.
Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem requested Bessent provide agents who would help investigate financial flows involving human-trafficking networks and businesses that employ illegal immigrants. The agents could help arrest, detain and transport people.
The tax agency has been adding enforcement staff, including criminal investigators, since the then-Democratic-controlled Congress voted in 2022 to expand the IRS and give it more resources. (Don't interfere with this. Every $1 spent brings in $4 of revenue. Let the IRS gear up and take on some billionaires. Musk will do nicely. )
IRS-CI agents investigate criminal tax evasion and other financial crimes, and they often work in tandem with the Federal Bureau of Investigation and other agencies. They track financial flows and have worked on cases attacking some of the Trump administration’s priorities, such as fentanyl trafficking and fraud involving government programs.
In 2024, according to the report, they identified $2.1 billion in tax fraud and $7 billion in other financial crimes.

A pittance compared to the vast sums spent by cities and states providing shelter and other services for immigrants while a few of them prey on our citizens. NYC alone has already spent over $5B themselves, not all in 2024 but the sums are vast.
I don't like these pittance arguments anyway so how about we agree to do both. The savings at USAID alone will pay for the Border Work leaving the IRS free to recover even more tax fraud. Win - Win, whadda you say?

Y'all have to figure out how you are going to hold all of these refugees while you process them out. I told you the logistics of mass deportation hadn't been thought through, they are daunting, and y'all are not doing things the cheapest way. I'm not agreeing with anything.
All I see right now is show. We are on the edge of it - we have at least one ruling against the President and what's being discussed is - how do you enforce judge's ruling if trump doesn't comply?
So right now we need good judges that will stand for the rule of law, stand up for the Constitution because both are being treated shabbily. If the judges hold the line at least 90% of the time, we're in good shape and will make it through. If they don't, I don't know what will happen and as the Chinese say, we live in interesting times

Agree. Sure, a balance must be maintained to keep the inflow of new arrivals at or below the outflow of deportations buffered by the number of available detention beds. More beds are being constructed in order to increase capacity of the whole process but the need to maintain the inflow/outflow balance will always be there.

Probably not but we certainly have time to fine tune plans while the first 250,000 of those with deportation orders are rounded up. And if that is not enough time, then there are another 500,000 ready to locate and deport before having to worry about it.

Sure, why start now.
