I know I told this story on TMF I worked as a magazine photogs assistant. The team I was with spent a month in the interior of Mexico in the very early 1980's. We interviewed top people in finance, industry, science, arts, education....
One night at dinner our team's writer, Selwa 'Lucky' Roosevelt, reminded the table that the AVERAGE age of Mexican males at the time was 10 yrs old. The implication of that bit of data was, in light of the poverty, density of cities, lack of work, was sobering.
I realized that most of the poor, rapidly reproducing nations were on the same track; they were cranking out more people than they could maintain. Those poor folks would be migrating toward wealth.
Theories that education and technology would somehow minimize the impact are interesting but .... here we are.

When I was born there were 2 billion people on this planet. Now there are over 8 billion. We humans have been ever so clever in solving short term crises, but when it comes to thinking really long term, we're not so good.
Yes, all my life I've heard the arguments in favor of population growth, but they mostly come down to economic policies...more young workers to support the old folks and keep the gears of capitalism grinding.
As someone who was worried about overpopulation, I was also against immigration to the US. But sano's point quoted above is what resigned me to its seeming inevitability. Like osmosis, the prosperity differential was going to make it hard to stop illegal immigration.
It may be true that the planet can 'support' twice the current population, but at what cost? That seems insane to me. And while I won't be around to see the consequences, my descendants will be.

I believe Kennedy did exactly that for Cubans. Instant citizenship. No poor struggling immigrant sob stories necessary. (Of course they weren't poor anyway.) Just hit the beach and you're in. Keeping in mind the Cubans of that cohort group were the ones who owned all the property, had all the money, owned all the businesses and worked with American Capitalists for decades (Ok I guess the mafia and the cia too...?) to make conditions in Cuba so bad Castro and the Commmies actually looked like a better deal.

Excellent point. But you don't know for sure there has been no vetting. The larger point is they are from a First World country (for the time being anyway) and would probably be deemed to need less vetting. Not at all surprising. Besides, what were there, like 60? You could practically get to know them personally which i believe is part of it. These didn't hear Bob Barker say "Come on down! They know somebody who knew somebod yadda yadda... Donald Trump.

Don't worry, Planned Parenthood *which does some needed good stuff* will also help White Liberals keep ethnically cleansing certain corners of America. Between that, and culture - Club 401IK's plantation is intact.
As far as migration the typical Europeans in France and Germany are more racist than the average MAGA rally any day.

Firearms are currently the leading cause of death for children in the United States.
This situation is unique to the United States and highlights the urgent need for Republicans to stop ignoring the carnage they are responsible for.
Also Child poverty is up sharply, because the republicans in Congress (plus Manchin and Sinema) refused to renew the expanded Child Tax Credit in President Biden's American Rescue Plan.
Disgraceful.
