I actually got to do some gardening today, the earliest I can recall here in the great north (I can see Canada from my house. 🤓). Although it was all weeding and cleanup work, it felt great to tune out the world for a while. Looks like bad thunderstorms heading our way, so I packed up and came back inside.
Checked the Boards to see albaby’s master class in debating with Dope. albaby keeps handing Dope a shovel and Dope just keeps digging. Dope should expect to hear people speaking Chinese fairly soon.
I’d call albaby a saint but I don’t think lawyers can be saints. 😁

I’d call albaby a saint but I don’t think lawyers can be saints. An engineer died and was mistakenly sent to hell. Fairly quickly, he had redesigned the place. Hell cooled down considerably thanks to the air conditioning he built and installed. The escalators and elevators worked just fine. Manual labor was quickly becoming a thing of the past.
God looked down one day and noticed all the changes. He called down to the devil to ask how these improvements came about.
The devil replied, “That engineer you sent me.”
“What engineer? You’re not supposed to have an engineer. Send him back up here!”
The devil’s answer was simple… “No.”
“If you don’t send that engineer back right now, I’m going to be very angry. In fact, I’ll sue you!”
The devil replied, “And . . . where are you going to get a lawyer?”https://eyestonelawoffices.com/lawyer-joke-of-the-...

It is fun to see albaby make mincemeat out of that dope. At least here, actual facts and logic still beats lies and irrationality.

Yah. I'm at least two rungs below Albaby, in debating skill. He's one of the reasons I'm here. He has misunderstood me at times.

I've been trying to emulate his writing style on the Nextdoor app in our low population rural county; not letting emotions creep in, sticking to facts as much as possible, providing links to source, etc.
It's frustrating in that there are so many ignorant and/or barely literate posters AND posters like old Dope; so deeply partisan that facts are ignored.
There are some interesting forces at work here. It's a traditionally red area; Central California ranchers and farmers represented by the likes of Victor Davis Hanson and Devin Nunes, and very wealthy grape growers/vintners like 'The Wonderful Company's Stewart and Lynda Resnick .
Water is a huge issue. 100day Trump claimed he is solving the water issue yesterday. 2 months ago he had the USACE do a major dam release to the chagrine of valley farmers who will need that water later in the dry season. What a performative waste. Pissed off the farmers, and pissed off the commercial fisherman who are being denied a salmon season 3rd year running because salmon need rivers to thrive and the rivers are low and hot because of water diversion to farmers. Trump wants wealthy farmer's campaign contributions. Commercial fisherman want salmon.
There's a weird issue in that Biden sold/leased hundreds of square miles of DEEP ocean 20 to 40 miles off the central coast to foreign wind turbine companies to giant moored turbine fields. Gov Newsom, The Sierra club and others Democratic orgs support the development of the huge wind farms. A blend of commercial fishermen, whale lovers and right wingers oppose it. It's weird to see the pro-wind farm folks support development that puts the marine environment at risk. Strange bedfellows. As if oil rigs here will be better than turbine farms offshore?

And yet Dope doesn't realize when he's been thoroughly thrashed. Repeatedly.
I mostly read those debates because I learn both the illogic and irrationality of the MAGA** side, and a lot about law and precedent explained in easy-to-comprehend ways.
**I would say "conservative", but I think a sizeable number -alas, not enough- are not MAGA.
