I watched 538 during 2016. Clinton dropped after Comey's letter and Trump gained and passed her. Then it reversed and two days before the election Clinton was rising in recovery over Trump, but still within the margin of error. So the polls were more accurate than was thought at the time, Clinton just didn't have time to recover. Trump tried to duplicate that and failed.
