The week's question
In December 2024, in the thread "Re: BRK: Why Not XOM?", BreckHutHigh asked the members: "What about the long road trips with kids?" This week it is put to everyone again. The button below opens the small thread re-asking it - read what others have said so far, then give your own answer as an ordinary reply.

If we survive this period, I expect several amendments to be proposed and a few of those to actually become enacted.

I suspect the Constitution will never be amended again. Not unless it is such a slam-dunk-obvious thing. It is difficult to amend for a reason, and getting the requisite number of states to ratify is almost impossible. You could probably get the ERA passed today (arguably, it already passed, but it hasn't been incorporated in the Constitution because of questions about expiration dates of the original proposal).

I was speaking more from a "emperor of the universe" stance. If I could change the Constitution, there would be a few things I would change. Not too much, really. But a few things. One would be to remove the presidential pardon. Another would be to give the Judiciary the power to hold the Executive in contempt, and confine POTUS until he/she complies with the orders. Congress can already remove POTUS, so that is in place. We're supposed to have three co-equal branches with roughly equal power, but the Judiciary has no teeth at all. I would fix that if I had the power.
