From Joyce Vance-

Smith & Wesson Brands v. Estados Unidos Mexicanos: The Court will decide whether the Mexican government’s lawsuit against U.S. gun manufacturers can move forward. Mexico alleges the gunmakers aided and abetted illegal gun sales to traffickers who provided firearms to drug cartels in Mexico.

Ironically, the case was granted the same week Trump’s Vice Presidential nominee JD Vance said Mexican cartels were bringing guns into the United States. That is not the case, and the Mexican government has registered complaints with Washington for at least the past fifteen years about the opposite—U.S. guns ending up in the hands of cartels. Whether Mexico can redress those claims in court remains to be seen.

You think the cartels *aren't* running guns in? Interesting.

================

US Guns did flow to Mexico for sure in the ill conceived Operation Wide Receiver and later Fast and Furious programs ran by the ATF. The "gun-walking" as they called it started under George Bush the lesser, and later Eric Holder was accused of a cover-up or some such, it has been a long time.

I don't care for lawsuits against manufactures who produce a lawful product being held liable for actions by third parties after the fact.

Running US made guns back into the United States? That’s what seems to be the case.

Further note:
But whether or not US guns are being run back into the US is beside the point, at least as far as THIS CASE is concerned

Mexico has its own problems with guns, and this case seeks to address that problem. Whether or not the Mexican Government will get a favorable ruling from the USSC is up for grabs, but for the reasons Mike outlines, I doubt they will.

Dear Dope. Think of the economics. The US is awash with guns. We have 300-400,000 guns cross the border into Mexico a year. Gangs ship a few ghost guns in a year, made by hand in the Philippines and they fetch $2-3,000 each, but now we have 3d printers.

So you're OK with the Sacklers?? = 1pg

--------------

I think that one is a little different. As I recall, the Sackler's bore a more direct responsibility because of the way their legal product was marketed.

An analogy might be Rock River Arms advertising their rifles as the perfect weapon for hunting south of the border.

That gunflow from those operations is a bucket in the river of guns from the USA to Mexico along with arms we gave/sold to other Latin American countries that end up there. One of the Mexican Drug Lords had an anti-aircraft gun, and that started under Reagan. I think it's been going on a long time.

I don't care for assaults on our Democracy being excused by parts of the populace for whatever reason. I'm just waiting to see how the case goes. I don't think it has much of a chance.

Want to stem the tide of bad things crossing the border?

Gain control of the border. It's that simple sometimes.
